SOHO
Resources.
SOHO stands for "Small Office,
Home Office".
This popular term describes entrepreneurial or small businesses
working with limited resources for networking and other expenses.
NETTING products, being among the easiest to install, and
being very cost effective, are usually strong candidates for
SOHOs.

Router Owners.
If your Internet connection has started dropping over the last couple of weeks, this issue may be caused by the recent Blaster virus. Before calling technical support, update your anti-virus program or go to this page and follow the instructions. |

Firewall
Security.
No. Though the term ”firewall” is
used generically describing a router’s
ability to masquerade a computer’s IP address, a true firewall does more.
Firewalls provide a greater level of security, giving
an administrator the ability to allow access to particular
IP addresses and domain names
while refusing the rest (filtering). Firewalls usually
allow remote access to the private network through secure
login and authentication certificates (Virtual Private
Networks, or VPNs). Firewalls prevent Denial
of Service (DoS)
attacks and can use software to provide content filtering
to deny access to unwanted Web sites. There are reporting
capabilities, known as an Intrusion Detection System.
Along with firewall functionality, the FVM318 comes with Freedom anti-virus and privacy software from Zero Knowledge Systems. This one-year subscription service is free. The software can be used on up to 8 PCs on the LAN. Other upgrades are available if you have more than 8 computers, or wish to take advantage of other security functionality offered by ZKS.
The FVM318 can deny users access to a Web site based on rules. It can filter the content based on URL, key words within the URL, the time of day, and the day of the week.
The FVM318 connects a LAN securely via a broadband Internet connection to private LANs or individual remote users. It has a built-in 802.11b access point supporting VPN across the wireless LAN. It supports 102 VPN tunnels (32 WLAN and 70 WAN) and a firewall using Stateful Packet Inspection (SPI).
To use the FVM318, you need an Ethernet adapter and Internet broadband. To connect wirelessly, get a 802.11b-compliant wireless NIC card, such as NETGEAR’s MA401.

Bandwidth
Optimization.
Only a few basics. The switches are pre-configured to enable users to operate them as unmanaged switches with full use of the 10/100 Mbps ports, the built-in RJ-45 ports, and the rear stacking ports.
The FSM700S Series switches can be managed using your Web browser, which has all the capabilities of the console interface, as well as others such as charts of traffic loads or history. Initial configuration of the switches requires the console interface, but later interaction can be done with a browser over the network.
Using either switch, you can stack up for a total of 144 10/100 Mbps ports using
the provided stacking cables. Using the FSM726S, you can stack six units, while
with the FSM750S, you can stack three units. You can manage this stack with a
single IP address. To build an even larger network, you can use the built-in
gigabit ports to link stacks together.
You can have a total of 144 10/100 Mbps ports in the stack, but you can do this
with any combination of the two different switches. Note that the master switch
must use the software version 1.0.3.
NETTING provides a stacking cable. No additional hardware is needed to stack
these
products.
The stacking connection provides up to 1.3 Gbps in each direction for a total
of 2.6 Gbps of bandwidth for moving traffic between the switches.
